Muslim weddings of Mysore are auspicious occasions of joy and jubilance. Among the Islamic sect-based Karnataka Muslim matrimony Maliki masalak is another predominant sect. Maliki school of law is the third largest of the four schools of fiqh or religious law within Sunni Islam. The Maliki school derives from the work of imam malik, primarily the Muwatta. The Muwatta is the collection of hadith which are regarded as sound and find their place in Bukhari with some commentary from malik regarding the ‘Amal’ practices of the people of medina and where the Amal is in compliance with or in variance with the hadiths reported. This is because imam malik of Madinah to be a superior proof of the “living “Sunnah than isolated, although sound, hadiths”. Maliki differs from the three other schools of law most notably in the sources it uses for derivation of rulings. In the Maliki Madhab, Sunnah includes not only what was recorded in Hadiths but the legal rulings of the four rightly guided caliphs, primarily Umar ibn al-Khattab, ijma , qiyas and urf .The Maliki school, in addition relies heavily upon the practice of the salaf people of Medina as a source . This is because their collective practice, along with the derivative rulings from the Salafi scholars, are considered Mutawwatir, or known and practiced of the first three generation of Muslims who resided in Medina.
Maliki’s would choose the hadith that has a medinian origin. In the Maliki madhab the “living sunnah” of the salaf of Medina substantiate the Singh reported hadith, not the other way round. This is probably what distinguishes Maliki madhab from shafi, Hanafi and Hanbali madhabs, respectively. Because according to Maliki the practice of the people of medina was considered “living Sunnah”, in as much as Muhammed migrated there, lived there and died there and most of his (S.A.S) companions lived there during his (S.A.S) life and after his (S.A.S)death. There are some differences in salah in the Maliki school too. Approximately 15% of Muslims, mostly in North Africa, West Africa, United Arab Emirates, some parts of Saudi Arabia follow the Maliki madhab.
